3D Secure (3-Domain Secure), also known as Payer Authentication, is a security protocol that is designed to be an additional security layer for online credit and debit card transactions. It was developed by Visa with the intention of improving the security of Internet payments and is offered to customers under the name "Verified by Visa". Other card networks have adopted this technology, including MasterCard (MasterCard SecureCode), American Express (SafeKey), and Discover (ProtectBuy).
