Customers

Customers are the people or companies you charge. You can store billing and shipping locations and saved payment methods.

Who can use this. The Customers menu requires customers.index, or super admin.

Before you start. Use a real email for the customer. The same email and location cannot be saved twice. The error is: A customer with this email and location already exists.

Steps

  1. Open Customers. If the list is empty, it says No customers found.
  2. Choose Create Customer or Add Customer.
  3. Enter the customer details and billing information. Shipping information can use Same as billing details.
  4. Save. The toast says Customer added successfully.
  5. Open the customer for Customer Details, Payment History, and Saved Payment Methods.
  6. Use Customer Locations to attach an address. Add location asks for a location nickname. The empty text is No locations found or No location added yet.
  7. Select this customer later on an invoice, payment link, or Virtual Terminal.
What you seeMeaningWhat happens next
Saved Payment MethodsCards stored for later. The full card number is not shown. Remove payment method deletes that saved method from the customer.
Location nicknameThe name you use to find an address.Required when you add a location.
Payment HistoryPayments for this customer. The card status is still the transaction status.
Delete this customerAsks you to confirm.Does not refund their payments.

After you save or submit. Adding a customer does not charge them. A charge starts only when you use a payment screen.

Example. Example only: Example Cafe adds fictional customer Riley Chen with a billing address and no saved card. Riley appears in the customer search on Virtual Terminal. No transaction exists until Cafe submits a sale.

Troubleshooting

  • Please select a customer. The payment form requires a customer before it will continue.
  • No location assigned. Add a location if the payment needs an address. The customer can still exist without one.
  • You cannot see Customers. Your user lacks customers.index.
