Fraud prevention and device information

Fraud prevention checks the customer device on payment links, payment pages, checkout sessions, invoices, and contracts when you turn it on. It can block a payment. It does not prove who the customer is.

Who can use this. The business configuration is managed under Settings, Configurations, by an admin or super admin. The checkbox on a link, page, invoice, recurring payment, or contract is available when the business configuration is on. The label is Enable Fraud Prevention. The description is: Check this customer's device and block payments that match your fraud rules.

Before you start. If you turn the business setting off, the toast says: Fraud prevention is turned off. Payment link and payment page charges will not be checked, which can increase the risk of fraudulent payments.

Steps

  1. Open Settings, Configurations.
  2. Find the fraud prevention configuration for the business and leave it on if you want checks to run.
  3. Create or edit a payment link, payment page, invoice, recurring payment, or contract.
  4. Set Enable Fraud Prevention. Saving stores that choice on that record.
  5. After a customer pays, open the transaction. The detail can show Fraud Prevention Enabled or Fraud Prevention Disabled, and a Device intelligence section.
  6. On an attempt, use Fraud Analysis instead. That table is the one labeled Decision, Suspect score, IP, and Location.
What you seeMeaningWhat happens next
Enable Fraud PreventionAsks for a device check on that payment. When enforcement is on, a matched block or score rule stops the payment.
Device intelligenceOn the transaction detail: risk assessment, risk score, timestamp, visitor id, event id, IP address, location, browser, OS, device type, and VPN, Tor, or incognito shown as Yes or No.These are signals. They are not an identity check.
Security DetailsThe transaction section that groups the security result.Read it with the payment status, not instead of the status.
verify rulesSome rules only record a signal.A verify match does not block the payment.
allow rulesA matched allow rule is not a block. The payment continues to the card step.
No device checks yetNothing was stored for that attempt.Do not treat a blank panel as fraud.

After you save or submit. Turning the setting on does not review old payments again. The next eligible payment is checked. Turning it off stops later link and page checks. It does not refund anything.

Example. Example only: Example Cafe leaves fraud prevention on and creates a 25.00 payment link with Enable Fraud Prevention checked. The fictional customer is blocked. Fraud Analysis says Blocked. Transaction History has no APPROVAL for that try. Example Cafe does not mark the order paid.

Troubleshooting

  • You turned it off by mistake. Turn the configuration back on, then set the checkbox on the next link or page. The warning toast is expected when you turn it off.
  • A normal customer was blocked. You cannot edit the hidden rules in this dashboard. Take a new payment only if you accept the risk and there is no existing approval. Contact support with the transaction time, amount, and visitor id, not the card number.
  • VPN or another country is shown. That is a signal. It is not, by itself, a reason the dashboard has decided the payment is fraudulent.
